But recently, the government introduced a digital system for the ease of its people. Now you can apply online for a Driving License, cutting the time to a minimum as possible.

Below we will discuss the application procedure for a driving license in Pakistan. However, only Punjab is currently offering a facility for online application. Other provinces are not offering this facility. So here we will discuss only Punjab. However, all other information is the same for all the provinces.

Pakistan Information Technology Board (PITB) introduced an online system for the driving license application which can be accessed by the people of almost 36 districts of Punjab. The system is known as the Driving License Issuance and Management System (DLIMS).

What is Learner’s License?

Before getting the license, you have to show that you are learning to drive the vehicle. You also have to show that you are studying all the traffic and driving rules.

In order to get a permanent license, you have to obtain a learner license first for a 6-week duration. Then you can apply for a permanent driving license. The following documents are required to apply for the learner license.

The following are the requirements to apply for the learning license in Pakistan:

  • A copy of your National Identity Card from Nadra
  • Purchase a ticket of Rs.60 from any Government Post Office (GPO)
  • Get a Code Book of Traffic Rules & Regulation from the Traffic Police Office
  • A Medical Certificate from a recognized hospital

Note: Learner permits are issued on a Daily basis whose Validity is 6 weeks.

How to apply for a Permanent License?

Follow the steps for the application for a permanent license.

  • Download the application form (A)
  • Fill out the form and submit all the documents to the nearest license office
  • Pass the theoretical test
  • Take the driving test
  • A driving license will be delivered to your home via post.

Note: your CNIC must have the temporary or permanent address of the respective district you are applying from.

Required documents for permanent license:

  • Application Form which you have downloaded online
  • Original Learner Permit which has not expired yet
  • Medical Certificate
  • 3 attested passport-size photos
  • Attested Copy of CNIC.
  • Paste a Ticket of Mentioned Fee on License Document.
  • Deposit Rs. 100 in Habib Bank, and take that slip with you.

Complete all these above-mentioned documents and submit your application to the nearest license office.
